Ich bin Regisseur, Produzent und Autor internationaler Dokumentationen und investigativer Filme.
Nach Filmhochschule und Akademie in Rom/Italien kamen zuerst Projekte als Regisseur in Theater und Oper. Der erste Spielfilm 1990 nach einem Drehbuch von Vladimir Makanin entstand in Moskau, während auf dem Kreml die sowjetische Flagge durch die Russlands ersetzt wurde. Danach kamen internationale Produktionen als Line-Producer, Producer und Regisseur, meist in Nordafrika und dem Nahen Osten.
Ende 2006 entschied ich mich, meine bisherige Heimatstadt Rom zu verlassen - und das Register zu wechseln. Mit der neuen Basis Berlin konzentriere ich mich seitdem auf internationale Dokumentationen zu brisanten oder bisher unbekannten Themen, die ich mit meiner Produktionsfirma OUTREMER realisiere (www.outremerfilm.com).
Die internationale Investigativ-Doku THE SIEGE OF MECCA / "Mekka 1979 - Urknall des Terrors?" wurde zum ersten Film über ein bisher unbekanntes Großereignis in Saudi-Arabien - der zwei Wochen dauernden Belagerung der Großen Moschee in Mekka - das zur Entstehung des islamistischen Terrorismus führte.das zur Entstehung des islamistischen Terrorismus führte.
Während der Arbeiten an "Mekka" lernte ich meinen französischen Partner PASCAL VERROUST kennen - seither arbeiten wir zusammen (K2 Productions, Paris www.k2productions.fr).
Im Anschluss an "Mekka" entstand das ebenfalls international koproduzierte Projekt BIG BANG OF THE PRESENT / „1979 Urknall der Gegenwart": eine dokumentarische Achterbahnfahrt in das Jahr, in dem unsere heutige Ära begann.
Der dritte gemeinsame Film mit Pascal Verroust ist unser bisher ambitioniertestes Projekt: DOOMSDAY CLOCK ( doomsday.outremerfilm.com). Der Film nimmt die größten menschgemachten Bedrohungen in den Fokus und erzählt ihre Entstehung parallel zur Geschichte des „Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists", eines 1945 von Einstein, Oppenheimer und anderen Wissenschaftlern gegründeten internationalen Netzwerks. PREMIERE: 21.11.2023 auf ARTE.

Dirk is a director, author and producer with international experience. After many years in fictional film, in the early 2000s he devoted himself to documentary film. His preferred areas of work are the Middle East, the Maghreb and Africa, with a special interest to Saudi Arabia.
Dirk's upcoming project for 2024 will be SILENT WAR, an investigative documentary feature co-produced and co-directed with his French partner Pascal Verroust, on one of the most politically divisive and acute subjects of our time. For enquiries please contact

Dirk just finished his newest project: AGAINST THE CLOCK (doomsday.outremerfilm.com), that investigates the greatest man-made threats to mankind and their simultaneous danger to our democracies: nuclear weapons, climate change and digital disinformation. Following the story of the "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists", a global network founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein and many Manhattan Project scientists, Dirk and his French co-director and co-producer Pascal Verroust narrate how humanity got to the brink of self-destruction, investigates the actionable solutions that can prevent it from happening, and asks if the Bulletin's original mission "to inform, warn and awaken the public" can still lay the bases of our democratic societies.
As with our previous films, we follow the shockwaves of the past ripple into our present and future world.
Previously, our investigative documentary "THE SIEGE OF MECCA" became the first film about the dramatic events in the Great Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia: the Siege marked the beginning of religiously motivated terrorism and represented a radical change in the history of the Middle East and the world. An extremely difficult production, MECCA took over 5 years to make and was supported internationally by Arte France, NDR, WDR, HR, RBB, ORF, MOIN Hamburg Film Fund, French National Institute INA and world-sales PBS International. Dirk's French partner Pascal Verroust co-produced the film.
"Mecca" was followed by a number of other projects in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries. In 2019 Dirk and his French partner PASCAL VERROUST teamed up completely, co-directing and co-producing "1979 BIG BANG OF THE PRESENT", a "visually stunning rollercoaster documentary" (Le Monde, France) that “delves into the fundamental moment that gave birth to our present era” (Tagesspiegel, Germany).
Dirk and Pascal are already co-producing their next project: SILENT WAR, re-telling the history of the "Cold War" as a very hot nuclear war waged by all nuclear nations against their own populations, with more than 2100 nuclear bombs dropped since 1945.
