Aufgrund der aktuellen Corona-Lage findet das Kölner Festival "Night of Surprise", als sechstägiges Festival statt, das neben dem Stadtgarten auch andere Konzertorte wie die Christuskirche und die Galerie Martina Kaiser einbezieht. Das Programm dieses Interimsformats konzentriert sich in eher konzertanten Formaten auf Nischen der europäischen Musiklandschaft und Projekte einiger Darlings der letzten Festivalausgaben, auf lokale Projekte und neue Kollaborationen.
Fred Frith & Lotte Anker
Zwei Musiker*innen im spontanen Dialog, ohne Netz und doppelten Boden. Die mit allen Free Jazz- und Improvisations-Wassern gewaschene dänische Saxophonistin Lotte Anker und der legendäre britische Avantgarde-Gitarrist und -Komponist Fred Frith arbeiten seit mehr als zehn Jahren im Duo und verschiedenen Ensembleformationen zusammen. In ihrem Zusammenspiel hat sich ein tiefes intuitives Verständnis entwickelt, das sich in höchst unterschiedlichen dynamischen Landschaften entfaltet. Eine abenteuerliche Musik, die das Jetzt erforscht: In Geräuschen und Klangtexturenn, kraftvollem Ausdruck und fragmentierten Gesten, in Melodien, Erinnerung, Stille. Im zweiten Teil ein neues Abenteuer: Frith und Anker begegnen mit Maria Portugal (Percussion), Angelika Sheridan (Flöte) und Udo Moll (Trompete, Elektronik) drei markanten Improvisationsstimmen aus der Region.
