Und obwohl dieser Klangkörper immerhin von Chefdirigenten wie Rafael Kubelik und Lorin Maazel geprägt wurde, hat Maestro Mariss Jansons die klangliche Identität noch einmal auf eine neue Ebene gehoben.
»Für mich als Dirigent ist es so, als wurde ich einen Rolls-Royce fahren. Dieses Orchester kann einfach alles«, so Jansons, der das Luxusensemble seit 2003 brillant und packend leitet. Zwei Mal führt der gebürtige Lette das Münchner Orchester nun in die Elbphilharmonie. Um die Akustik optimal auszureizen, hat er mit Mahlers Siebter Sinfonie (30. April 2018) und Strauss’ »Also sprach Zarathustra« (13. Januar 2018) zwei sinfonische Schwergewichte dabei.
