EVE RISSER
“She generates sounds that are alternately percussive, droning, ringing, buzzing and tuneful: Symphonies of color and texture that flow with an inexorable compositional logic.”
Downbeat
Risser is adept in multiple settings, be it as arranger for large ensembles or orchestration for big bands such as her highly acclaimed White Desert Orchestra. She has also made a name for herself in more intimate settings such as her solo and duo piano work. Risser rose to prominence at the 2010 edition of Improvised Music Company’s 12 Points Festival with her piano & drum duo Donkey Monkey. There was a playfulness, unpredictability and wry inventiveness in her playing which made her a favorite of the 2010 edition of the festival. Her strong sonic voice, her willingness to subvert jazz convention coupled with her exceptional use of extended piano techniques showcases her singular imaging of the instrument.
