„Im Sommer 2023 traf ich erstmals auf die estnische Pianistin Kirke Karja im Rahmen eines Konzerts von Fabian Dudeks Ensemble Day By Day (Cologne Jazzweek ‘23). Zum damaligen Zeitpunkt war sie mir vor allem durch ihre Arbeit als Bandleaderin (u.a. mit Karja/Renard/Wandinger) bekannt – ich möchte hiermit eine Empfehlung für das Album The Wrong Needle aussprechen.
Durch die Zusammenarbeit bei Day By Day war Kirke und mir klar, dass wir ein Projekt mit Fokus auf zwei Flügeln angehen möchten. Unsere klangästhetischen Vorstellungen und improvisatorischen Ansätze liegen nah beieinander und doch klingen wir beide wunderbar verschieden.
Anfang Januar treffen wir uns also im LOFT um zu proben, arrangieren und aufzunehmen. Im Anschluss an diese Arbeitsphase möchte ich euch herzlichst zu einem Debüt-Konzert dieses Duos einladen.“

„I first met Estonian pianist Kirke Karja in the summer of 2023 at a concert by Fabian Dudek’s ensemble Day By Day (Cologne Jazzweek ’23). At that time, I knew her mainly through her work as a bandleader (with Karja/Renard/Wandinger, among others) – I would like to recommend the album The Wrong Needle.
Through our collaboration on Day By Day, Kirke and I realized that we wanted to tackle a project with a focus on two grand pianos. Our sonic aesthetics and improvisational approaches are close to each other and yet we both sound wonderfully different.
So at the beginning of January we will meet at LOFT to rehearse, arrange and record. Following this work phase, I would like to cordially invite you to a debut concert of this duo.“
