Seine Siebte Sinfonie in d-Moll vollendete der tschechische Komponist Antonín Dvořák im März 1885. Er wollte dem Lob, das der verehrte Kollege Brahms seinen früheren Sinfonien gezollt hatte, unbedingt gerecht werden. Dieser Anspruch lastete schwer auf ihm: »Ich bin jetzt mit der neuen Sinfonie beschäftigt«, schrieb Dvořák über seine Siebte. »Und wohin ich auch gehe, ich habe keinen Gedanken für etwas anderes als meine Arbeit, die die Welt bewegen muss.« Das ist ihm gelungen.
