Der in Berlin lebende Schlagzeuger und Komponist Lukas Akintaya refektiert mit seinem Projekt und gleichnamigen Debütalbum HUES (Skirl Records, 2021) seine Zeit in New York City. Er thematisiert das Orientieren in einem neuen Umfeld, das Umdenken von bekannten und festgetretenen Paradigmen, die Inbetrachtnahme anderer Blickwinkel. Dabei spricht das Album eine ganz eigene Sprache, die sich nicht auf einen Genrebegriff reduzieren lässt. Ein starker improvisatorischer Ansatz, mischt sich mit Post und Alternative Rock, Ambient und Elektronik. Derweil geht es bei HUES nicht um das Überschreiten von Grenzen, oder das reproduzieren bekannter Narrative – ein freier Kollektiver Geist steht im Mittelpunkt der Musik dieses Ensembles und ermöglicht unvorhergesehene Entwicklungen.

Berlin-based drummer and composer Lukas Akintaya reflects on his time in New York City with his project and eponymous debut album HUES (Skirl Records, 2021). He focuses on finding one’s bearings in a new environment, rethinking familiar and entrenched paradigms, and taking other perspectives into account. The album speaks its own language, which cannot be reduced to a genre term. A strong improvisational approach mixes with post and alternative rock, ambient and electronic. Meanwhile, HUES is not about crossing boundaries or reproducing familiar narratives – a free collective spirit is at the heart of this ensemble’s music, allowing for unforeseen developments.
