Am 15. April 2020 erlag mit Lee Konitz der "wohl einflussreichste Altsaxophonist nach Bebop-Ikone Charlie Parker" (David R. Adler) in New York City im Alter von 92 Jahren der durch das SARS-CoV-2 Virus verursachten Krankheit COVID-19.
Im Gedenken an den Großmeister, der viele Jahre in Köln gelebt, und das LOFT häufig als Gast (aber nie als auftretender Musiker) besucht hatte, trafen am 28. April 2020 der Saxophonist Frank Gratkowski und der Pianist Simon Seidl im LOFT für eine musikalische Andacht aufeinander.

Der Todestag von Lee Konitz jährt sich nun zum ersten Mal - am Vorabend treffen sich Frank und Simon erneut im LOFT. Dieses Mal werden sie vorwiegend Kompositionen von Konitz selbst spielen um an den beispiellosen und singulären Saxophonisten zu erinnern.

On April 15, 2020, Lee Konitz, "arguably the most influential alto saxophone soloist after bebop progenitor Charlie Parker" (David R. Adler), succumbed in New York City at the age of 92 to COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
In memory of the grandmaster, who lived in Cologne for many years, and had frequently visited Lthe OFT as a guest (but never as a performing musician), saxophonist Frank Gratkowski and pianist Simon Seidl joined forces at the LOFT on April 28, 2020 for a musical devotional.

On the eve of the first anniversary of Lee Konitz's death, Frank and Simon will meet again at the LOFT. This time they will play mainly compositions by Konitz himself to commemorate the unparalleled and singular saxophonist.
