Lathyrus ist ein Jazz Quartett, das im Mai 2018 von Musikern, die sich an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen kennengelernt haben, gegründet wurde.

Lathyrus Musik ist eine Symbiose aus Jazz und Klassischer Musik – polyphone Melodien und Raum für Improvisationen reizen die spielerischen und klanglichen Grenzen der Instrumente aus. Die Band spielt hauptsächlich eigene Kompositionen und Arrangements, die eine besondere Atmosphäre schaffen. Die Musik der Band ist durch Kompositionen von Richie Beirach, Kenny Wheeler, Esbjörn Svensson und anderen beeinflusst.

Lathyrus ist der Name einer wundervollen Blume und, ebenso wie sich eine blühende Blume entwickelt, verwandelt sich ihre Musik in eine Geschichte. Während die Blume Lathyrus einen Garten mit Duft und Farben erfüllt, schafft die Musik des Quartetts eine einfühlsame Stimmung um sich, rundum angereichert mit Improvisationen und Klanglandschaften.

Für Oktober 2021 ist die Veröffentlichung des Debütalbums "On the Brink of Light" geplant.

athyrus is a jazz quartet, formed in May 2018 by musicians who met at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany.

Lathyrus music is a symbiosis of jazz and classical music - polyphonic melodies and space for improvisations push the limits of the instruments' playability and sound. The band plays mainly their own compositions and arrangements, which create a special atmosphere. Lathyrus music is influenced by compositions by Richie Beirach, Kenny Wheeler, Esbjörn Svensson and others.

Lathyrus is a flower and just like a flourishing flower, their music develops and transforms into a story. While the flower Lathyrus fills a garden with fragrance and colors, the quartet's music creates a sensitive mood around it, enriched all around with improvisations and soundscapes.

In October 2021 the release of the debut album On the Brink of Light is planned.
