COSMOS – das neue Album des Johanna Klein Quartets wurde vor wenigen Tagen unter dem Label Berthold Records veröffentlicht. Das erste Releasekonzert findet am 8. Juli 2021 im LOFT vor Publikum statt!

Die Bandleaderin hat sich drei renommierte Musiker der Kölner Jazz Szene für ihr Quartett ausgesucht. Gespielt werden Eigenkompositionen, die im Kollektiv stetig weiterentwickelt und transformiert werden. Die Musik bewegt sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen Modern Jazz und freier Improvisation, aber auch Einflüsse aus Pop und Rock sind zu erkennen. Der Sound der Band wird ausgezeichnet durch den improvisatorischen Umgang mit Parametern wie Klangdichte, Dynamik, spielerischer Freiheit und festgelegte Schemata. Bass, Saxophon und Schlagzeug werden akustisch bedient und ergänzt durch den elektronisch verzerrten Sound der E-Gitarre.

Anfang 2019 gewann das Johanna Klein Quartett den Jazzwettbewerb der Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung und das damit verbundene Auftrittsstipendium.
Im Sommer 2020 wurde das Debut Album COSMOS aufgenommen, im Herbst 2021 wird das Johanna Klein Quartett auf dem Avignon Jazzfestival spielen.

For her quartet, the bandleader has chosen three renowned musicians of the Cologne jazz scene. They play original compositions, which are constantly developed and transformed in the collective. The music moves in the area of tension between modern jazz and free improvisation, but influences from pop and rock are also recognizable. The sound of the band is distinguished by the improvisational handling of parameters such as sound density, dynamics, playful freedom and fixed schemes. Bass, saxophone and drums are operated acoustically and complemented by the electronically distorted sound of the electric guitar.

Early in 2019, the Johanna Klein Quartet won the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation jazz competition and the associated performance scholarship.
In the summer of 2020, the debut album COSMOS was recorded, and in fall of the same year, the Johanna Klein Quartet will play at the Avignon Jazz Festival. read less
