Das Trio HMZ um den kandadischen Gambisten Pierre Yves Martel und die beiden Kölner Musiker, Philip Zoubek und Carl Ludwig Hübsch, feierte seine Premiere 2012 im Kölner LOFT.

Im Laufe von mehreren Tourneen in Kanada und Europa entwickelte das Trio eine Musik, die transparent und geheimnisvoll zugleich wirkt. Jeder Ton scheint genau auf den Punkt gesetzt und die einzelnen Stimmen sind eindrucksvoll miteinander verzahnt. Die avancierten Spieltechniken der drei Musiker erschaffen im Zusammenspiel eine derartige musikalische Vielfalt, dass sie trotz viel leiser Stellen und Pausen weit davon entfernt ist, eine blutleere reduktionistische Übung darzustellen. Zum nachträglichen zehnjährigen Jubliäum trifft das Trio auf die in Wien lebende Violinistin Tiziana Bertoncini ein, deren Spiel sich im Grenzbereich Neuer Musik und freier Improvisation bewegt.

The trio HMZ around the Candadian gambist Pierre Yves Martel and the two Cologne musicians, Philip Zoubek and Carl Ludwig Hübsch, celebrated its premiere in 2012 in Cologne's LOFT.

In the course of several tours in Canada and Europe, the trio developed a music that seems transparent and mysterious at the same time. Every note seems to be set exactly to the point and the individual voices are impressively interlocked. The advanced playing techniques of the three musicians create such musical diversity in their interplay that, despite many quiet passages and pauses, it is far from being an anaemic reductionist exercise. For their belated tenth anniversary, the trio is joined by Vienna-based violinist Tiziana Bertoncini, whose playing is on the borderline between new music and free improvisation.
