DICKE LUFT, Kölns einzig wahres Blasorchester, startet im LOFT in sein Konzertjahr und freut sich sehr darauf.

Aber kann das passen?
Bei Vollbesetzung stehen zwei Dutzend Orchestermitglieder im Raum und machen zusammen mit dem Publikum dem wunderbaren Steinway D den Platz streitig.
Wird schon klappen, denn das LOFT-Programm des Frühjahrs dokumentiert mehrere größere Ensembles.

Aber eben nicht DICKE LUFT, Kölns einzig wahres Blasorchester.
Was macht es aus?
Vor dem Texten dieser Zeilen haben wir uns angeschaut, was die anderen Acts des Frühjahrs über sich schreiben. Einige Sachen haben uns gefallen: frei und offen mit dem musikalischen Material umgehen; kraftvolle Chemie; farbenfroh – und vor allem Flexibilität und Wucht.

Das passt. DICKE LUFT spielt Jazzklassiker, Weill, Zappa, Filmmusik, Niehaus, Bonnen, Hanschel, Mitchell, Klassik und Weltmusik. Grenzen der Ästhetik oder Genres werden seit über 40 Jahren – so lange gibt es DICKE LUFT – ignoriert. Immer wieder überraschen Rezitationen oder Gesang. Und nur weil ein Maxi-Makro-Klangkörper da steht, heißt das nicht, dass alle ständig spielen müssen. Manchmal genügt ein Quartett.

DICKE LUFT, Cologne’s only true wind orchestra, is starting its concert year at LOFT and is very much looking forward to it.

But can it work?
With a full line-up, two dozen orchestra members stand in the room and, together with the audience, compete with the wonderful Steinway D for space.
It will work, because this spring’s LOFT program documents several larger ensembles.

But not DICKE LUFT, Cologne’s only true wind orchestra.
What makes it special?
Before writing these lines, we took a look at what the other spring acts wrote about themselves. We liked a few things: a free and open approach to the musical material; powerful chemistry; colorful – and above all, flexibility and power.

That fits. DICKE LUFT plays jazz classics, Weill, Zappa, film music, Niehaus, Bonnen, Hanschel, Mitchell, classical and world music. For over 40 years – that’s how long DICKE LUFT has been around – the boundaries of aesthetics and genres have been ignored. Recitations and vocals are always a surprise. And just because there is a maxi-macro ensemble doesn’t mean that everyone has to play all the time. Sometimes a quartet is enough.
