Gunther Tiedemann und der in São Paulo lebende Kubaner Yaniel Matos haben sich 2017 beim 23rd New Directions Cello Festival in Ithaca/New York kennengelernt und sofort eine gegenseitige persönliche und musikalische Sympathie erlebt, die 2019 in der Duo-Zusammenarbeit beim 25. Rio Cello Festival in Rio de Janeiro mündete. 2020 steht Yaniel Matos mit der Cologne String Big Band – der Streicher Bigband der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln – auf der Bühne. Lateinamerikanische „Folklore“ mit teils afrikanischen Wurzeln und Jazz-Background kombinieren sich in Yaniels Kompositionen und Arrangements kubanischer und brasilianischer Klassiker.
Die Streicher Bigband der HfMT spielte bereits Konzerte mit Markus Stockhausen, Stephen Katz (USA), Ernst Reijseger (NL), Roger Hanschel, Chris Haigh (GB), Rupert Gillett (GB), David Plate, The Gust (NL) und Lychee Lassi.
