In der Reihe CGNYC – Cologne meets New York lädt der Kölner Bassist Florian Herzog New Yorker Musiker*innen ein, um in einem ersten Zusammentreffen mit weiteren Kölner Musiker*innen spannende Konzerte zu gestalten.

DoYeon Kim ist eine koreanische Gayageum-Spielerin, die traditionelle koreanische Musik, Jazz und Improvisation verbindet und das Gayageum der weltweiten Improvisationsszene bekannt gemacht hat.
Sie hat international Wettbewerbe gewonnen, darunter den Dong-A Ilbo und den On-Nala Korean Music Competition, war die erste Studentin am New England Conservatory, die ein koreanisches traditionelles Instrument spielte und trat 2022 dem Lehrkörper der Schule bei.
Kim arbeitete mit Komponisten, Tänzern und bildenden Künstlern zusammen und trat weltweit mit Musikern wie Tyshawn Sorey und Tony Malaby auf.
Sie veröffentlicht Alben, die koreanische Musik und Jazz verbinden, und wurde 2018 für einen koreanischen Grammy nominiert.
Grammy.com hat sie als Musikerin anerkannt, die asiatische Instrumente weiterentwickelt, und sie setzt ihre innovative Arbeit als Van Lier Fellow 2023 bei Roulette fort.

In the CGNYC – Cologne meets New York series, Cologne bassist Florian Herzog invites New York musicians to create exciting concerts in a first meeting with other Cologne musicians.

DoYeon Kim is a Korean gayageum player who combines Korean traditional music, jazz and improvisation and has popularized the gayageum to the global improvisation scene.
She has won competitions internationally, including the Dong-A Ilbo and the On-Nala Korean Music Competition, was the first student at the New England Conservatory to play a Korean traditional instrument, and joined the school’s faculty in 2022.
Kim has collaborated with composers, dancers and visual artists and has performed worldwide with musicians such as Tyshawn Sorey and Tony Malaby.
