Vincent Koch ist ein in Berlin geborener Saxophonist und Komponist, der seit 2017 in Köln lebt und dort an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz studiert. Wichtige Lehrer waren über die Jahre Walter Gauchel, Hubert Nuss und Niels Klein.
2021 lebte er ein Jahr in Paris und studierte am Conservatoire National Superieure de Musique et Danse de Paris.

“In meinem Trio geht es mir darum, eigene Musik, aber auch Standards und Originals von Komponisten wie George Gershwin und Charlie Parker zu interpretieren, also den musikalischen Gedanken der Komposition möglichst klar darzustellen, und dann davon ausgehend, zu improvisieren. Dabei geht es mir weniger um ein Erweitern der jeweiligen Form, sondern um ein in-die-Tiefe gehen, und um eine intuitive Soloentwicklung, stilistisch verwurzelt in der Jazz-Tradition. Vorbilder sind hier vor allem Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz und Lester Young. Mein Trio mit Henning Gailing und Mathieu Clement ist ein Projekt, das mir sehr am Herzen liegt, und ich freue mich sehr mit ihnen meinen Bachelor Abschluss musikalisch zu feiern.”

Vincent Koch is a Berlin-born saxophonist and composer who has been living in Cologne since 2017, where he studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. Important teachers over the years have been Walter Gauchel, Hubert Nuss and Niels Klein.
In 2021, he lived in Paris for a year and studied at the Conservatoire National Superieure de Musique et Danse de Paris.

“In my trio, I am interested in interpreting my own music, but also standards and originals by composers such as George Gershwin and Charlie Parker, that is, in presenting the musical idea of the composition as clearly as possible, and then improvising from that. In doing so, I am less interested in expanding the respective form, but rather in going into depth, and in an intuitive solo development, stylistically rooted in the jazz tradition. My role models here are above all Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz and Lester Young. My trio with Henning Gailing and Mathieu Clement is a project very close to my heart, and I’m very excited to celebrate my bachelor’s degree musically with them.”
