The creative process of the opera “Wunderzaichen” (miraculous signs) by Mark Andre
Synopsis
In 2008 Mark Andre was assigned by the Staatsoper Stuttgart to write an opera, directed by Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito. The subject dealt with a tale that had fascinated the composer since he was a little child: the disappearance of Jesus from Nazareth. However, the main character of the opera, Mark Andre worked on for 7 years, is Christian scholar Johannes Reuchlin, who already studied the Jewish Kabbala during the 15th century. The film follows Mark Andre during his journey to Israel in 2011, during the soundreseach in the Experimentalstudio of the SWR in Freiburg in 2013 and during thefinal rehearsal in the Oper Stuttgart in the spring of 2014. Under the musical direction of Sylvain Cambreling “Wunderzaichen” was, unlike any contemporary opera this year critically acclaimed both by the press and the audiences.
