Director's comment
"Son of Sofia" is a film about the inability to express and accept love. At the same time, it is a story about how we raise our children and how our homeland grooms future citizens. In that sense, it is essentially a film about identity formation: sexual, national, religious, linguistic and political.After my first film, I’m once again consumed by a personal story, which, when placed in a specific sociopolitical context, is seen on a much grander scale and expresses much more a collective attitude. Two men vie for one woman’s attention, just like two different worlds stake their claim to the same society, in a violent, absurd, urban fairytale...
Biography
“Son of Sofia” is Elina Psykou’s second feature. Her debut, “The Eternal Return of Antonis Paraskevas” premiered in Berlinale 2013 and, later on the same year, Elina was among the 10 European directors to watch by Variety.Filmography:
