The rehearsal of the Missa Solemnis op. 123 by Ludwig van Beethoven
Synopsis
On the occasion of his 50th anniversary, Frieder Bernius rehearsed the Missa solemnis by Ludwig van Beethoven with the Kammerchor Stuttgart. The inpetto filmproduktion recorded the CD recording of the work in the monastery church of Alpirsbach, which took place on October 16 and 17, 2018 as a co-production of Carusverlag with SWR Stuttgart.
The Hofkapelle Stuttgart plays - the soloists are Johanna Winkel (soprano), Sophie Harmsen (alto), Sebastian Kohlhepp (tenor) and Arttu Kataja (bass). The recording is committed to historical performance practice and uses only original or faithful instruments from the time of the premiere. The lowering of the vocal pitch to 430 Hz and a sophisticated tonal balance of the instrumental groups, the choir and the soloists result in a very convincing chamber music habitus of the work, which appears in a slender, filigree and nuanced light. Accordingly, the filmic documentation does not focus on the individual soloistic performances, but on the togetherness of the musicians, recorded in a concentrated and devoted working situation.
