Der Charaktertenor Thomas Cilluffo erntet schnell Lob für seine kraftvolle Stimme und sein beeindruckendes Spiel.
In der Spielzeit 2022/23 gab Cilluffo sein Europadebüt sowohl am Teatro Regio Torino als auch an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, wo er als Stipendiat der Opera Foundation New York das Ensemble bereichert. Außerdem kehrt er als Bardolfo in Sir David McVicars Neuinszenierung von FALSTAFF an die Santa Fe Opera zurück, nachdem er im vergangenen Sommer als Don Curzio in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO triumphiert hatte.
In den letzten Jahren nahm Thomas Cilluffo höchst erfolgreich an renommierten Wettbewerben teil und gewann u. a. 2022 den Ersten Platz beim Internationalen Gesangswettbewerb der Premiere Opera Foundation, war Finalist beim George London Foundation Wettbewerb 2022, beim Gerda Lissner Opernwettbewerb 2022 und beim Gerda Lissner Liederwettbewerb 2021.
Zu seinen Rollen zählen Belfiore / LA FINTA GIARDINIERA, Almaviva / IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Spoletta / TOSCA, Hexe / HÄNSEL UND GRETEL, Adolfo Pirelli / SWEENEY TODD, Don Ottavio / DON GIOVANNI, Puck / A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM und die Titelrolle in ROMÉO ET JULIETTE an Opernhäusern wie der Portland Opera, Pittsburgh Festival Opera und Opera Colorado.
Als Tausendsassa begann Cilluffo mit der Produktion von so genannten „Selfie-Opern", bei denen es sich im Wesentlichen um kurze Opernszenen handelt, die er selbst produziert und aufführt, um den Menschen, die aufgrund der Pandemie zu Hause bleiben mussten, die Oper näher zu bringen. Er ist auch ein begeisterter Handwerker und stellt gerne Schmuck her, arbeitet mit Holz und schmiedet. Seit fast einem Jahrzehnt fertigt Thomas Cilluffo maßgefertigte Dirigierstäbe für Orchester- und Chordirigenten in aller Welt.
Thomas Cilluffo erwarb seinen BM/MM an der Universität von Michigan, wo er bei Tenor George Shirley studierte.
