Die niederländische Mezzosopranistin Nina van Essen studierte Gesang am Koninklijik Conservatorium Den Haag. An der Dutch National Opera war sie 2016 in der Rolle des Madrigalisten in Manon Lescaut zu erleben und gab anschließend im Rahmen der Dutch National Opera Academy 2017 ihr Debüt als Madame de la Haltiere in Massenets Cendrillon, gefolgt von Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel. Ihr Repertoire beinhaltet weitere Fachpartien wie Mercedes in Bizets Carmen, Dorabella in Mozarts Così fan tutte, Masha in Schostakowitschs Oper Moskau, Tscheremuschk und die Titelpartie in Brittens The Rape of Lucretia.
Weitere Engagements führten sie bereits an das Théâtre de L’Athénée in Paris, in die Concertgebouw Amsterdam, an die L’Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand, das Théâtre Le Reflet de Vevey, das Theater Equilibre in Freiburg und die Oper Leipzig.
Von 2019 bis 2024 war sie Ensemblemitglied der Staatsoper Hannover und hier u.a. als Rosina in Il Babiere di Siviglia, Ruggiero in Alcina, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridce und Emilia in Otello zu erleben.
