Seit dem Jahr 2003 ist Matthias Foremny GMD und Operndirektor am Mecklenburgischen Staatstheater Schwerin. Konzerte führten ihn zur Staatskapelle Dresden, zum Deutschen Sinfonieorchester Berlin, zur Dresdener Philharmonie, zum WDR Rundfunksinfonieorchester, zu den Stuttgarter Philharmonikern und zum Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, sowie zu zahlreichen weiteren Orchestern in Deutschland, Norwegen, Italien und Tschechien.
Mit dem Rundfunksinfonieorchester Berlin, dem SWR-Sinfonieorchester, dem MDR Sinfonieorchester und dem Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra Helsinki arbeitet er neben der Konzerttätigkeit auch in Rundfunkproduktionen zusammen.
Im Juli 2008 übernahm er die Leitung des Bundesjugendorchesters für die Sommerarbeitsphase 2008 mit anschließender Tournee nach Österreich und Italien. Im Februar 2009 sprang Matthias Foremny kurzfristig für Vladimir Fedosseyev beim Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki ein.
Seit 2004 ist Matthias Foremny regelmäßig Gast an der Deutschen Oper Berlin (2009 »Die Zauberflöte«, 2010 »Tosca«), die er im Oktober 2008 als Konzertdirigent zum Beijing Music Festival begleitete.
Weitere Einladungen führen ihn zu den Stuttgarter Philharmonikern, der Staatskapelle Weimar, dem Musikkollegium Winterthur und zu den Nürnberger Philharmonikern. Beim RSB Berlin dirigiert Matthias Foremny weitere Rundfunkproduktionen und Konzerte 2009 und 2010.
In Münster geboren, gewann Matthias Foremny 1995 während seiner Studien in Detmold und Wien den Internationalen Dirigentenwettbewerb »Prager Frühling«. 1997 folgte das Berlin Debüt mit dem Deutschen Sinfonieorchester Berlin.
Nach seiner Tätigkeit als erster Kapellmeister am Landestheater Detmold wurde er im Jahr 2000 als erster Kapellmeister an die Komische Oper Berlin engagiert, wo er neben dem umfangreichen Repertoire die Premieren von Brittens »Turn of the Screw« (Bayerischer Theaterpreis) und Ligetis »Le Grand Macabre« dirigierte, welche internationale Beachtung fand.
Im Jahr 2002 wurde Matthias Foremny vom Deutschen Musikrat als Preisträger des Dirigentenforums ausgezeichnet.
An der Komischen Oper Berlin dirigiert Matthias Foremny in der laufenden Spielzeit die Vorstellungen von »Don Giovanni«.

Matthias Foremny is general music director and opera director of the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin since 2003. Concerts and radio productions took him to the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Hamburg Symphony, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Bochum Symphony and the Dortmund Philharmonic. In the season 2007/08, Matthias Foremny will again be invited by the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Halle Staatskapelle, the RSB Berlin and he will make his debut with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra Helsinki.
Born in Münster, he won in1995 during his studies in Detmold and Vienna the International Conducting Contest »Prague Spring«. This success was followed in 1997 by his Berlin debut with the German Symphony Orchestra. He worked for two years as first capellmeister and assistant GMD at the Detmold Landestheater. In 2000 he was engaged as first capellmeister by the Komische Oper Berlin, where he conducted numerous repertoire performances as well as Harry Kupfer's stagings of Charles Gounod's »Romeo et Juliette« and Benjamin Britten's »The Turn of the Screw«. He attracted world-wide attention for conducting the opera »Le Grand Macabre« by György Ligeti. In 2002, Matthias Foremny was award winner of the German Conducting Forum of the German Music Council and conducted the WDR Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Cologne Philharmonic.
