Seit der Spielzeit 2007/08 übernimmt er an der Komischen Oper Berlin die musikalische Leitung von »Kiss me, Kate«.

Koen Schoots was born in the Netherlands and studied at the Maastricht Music Academy conducting, piano and singing. In 1984 he began in Klagenfurt/ Austria as répétiteur and advanced within four years to the position of the first capellmeister. In 1989 he continued his career as first capellmeister in Gelsenkirchen. From 1992 to 2002 he devoted himself mainly to the entertaining music theatre and conducted, amongst others, »Cats« in Hamburg, in Bremen and Cologne »Jekyll & Hyde« and as well for the Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin. With the beginning of the season 2003/04, he is permanently engaged by the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf/Duisburg and is more focusing on the classic repertoire. He conducts in Düsseldorf »Tosca« and »Macbeth« as well as the ballets »Coppelia« and »Der holzgeschnitzte Prinz«. Apart from his engagement in Düsseldorf he is a regular guest with »Sweeney Todd« at the Komische Oper Berlin. Further guest engagements include »The Magic Flute«, »Carmen« and »Aida« for the St. Margarethen Opera Festival (Austria), Frank Wildhorn's »The Scarlet Pimpernel« for the Opernhaus Halle and his most recent musical »Dracula« for the St. Gallen Theatre, the fantasy opera »Gormenghast« by Irmin Schmidt in Luxemburg and Lille and the new Czech musical »Romeo and Julia« in Saarbrücken. His future engagements include, amongst others, the debut performance of »The Day Before« in Philadelphia, »The Freeshooter« with the Summer Festival Saar, »Les Misérables« for the St. Gallen Theatre, »Nabucco« and »La Traviata« with the St. Margarethen Opera Festival and »Die Jüdin von Toledo« at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
For the Komische Oper Berlin he guides the production of »Kiss me, Kate« since the season 2007/08.
