Kevin McCutcheon, geboren in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, studierte an der Philadelphia Music Academy Dirigieren, Klavier und Komposition. Schon früh trat er als Solist und Begleiter namhafter Instrumentalisten auf. Auch als Liedbegleiter machte er sich einen Namen. Von 1976 bis 1979 war er als Dirigent an der Opera of Philadelphia tätig.
Sein Debüt als Dirigent an der Deutschen Oper Berlin gab Kevin McCutcheon im Dezember 1985 mit COSI FAN TUTTE. Er ist dem Haus als Solo-Repetitor verbunden und dirigiert auch Vorstellungen des KinderMusikTheaters. Außerdem gastiert er regelmäßig mit dem Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, dem Deutschen Symphonie-Orchester Berlin und dem Kammerorchester Berlin. Im Jahre 1985 wurde Kevin McCutcheon mit dem PMA Music Award Pennsylvania ausgezeichnet. Kürzlich gastierte er als Dirigent der Prager Oper in Japan.
Seit vielen Jahren verbindet Kevin McCutcheon eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kammerorchester Berlin, sowohl als Cembalist als auch als Dirigent. 2006 gastierte er mit dem Kammerorchester Berlin bei den Musikfestspielen Potsdam Sanssouci, beim Rheingau-Musikfestival sowie bei Musikfestivals in Spanien.
