Inga Schäfer ist seit Beginn der Spielzeit 2017/18 Ensemblemitglied am Theater Freiburg. Inga Schäfer ist seit Beginn der Spielzeit 2017/18 Ensemblemitglied am Theater Freiburg. Dort debütierte sie u.a. als Mélisande (PELLÉAS UND MÉLISANDE), Donna Elvira (DON GIOVANNI), Miss Jessel (TURN OF THE SCREW), Dido (DIDO UND AENEAS), Fuchs (DAS SCHLAUE FÜCHSLEIN), Licida (L’OLIMPIADE), Hänsel (HÄNSEL UND GRETEL), Fremde Fürstin (RUSALKA) sowie in den Titelpartien der Uraufführung ESCAPE (Wang / Cheng) und der europäischen Erstaufführung von MARNIE (Muhly) und THE HANDMAIDS TALE (Rouders).
Gesangsunterricht erhielt sie bei Dorothee Wohlgemuth und im Studium bei Prof. R.Robins. Sie studierte zunächst Lehramt Musik mit Hauptfach Viola (1. Staatsexamen), dann Gesangspädagogik (Diplom) und Gesang (B.Mus./M.Mus), wechselte 2014 an das Opernelitestudio des Theaters Lübeck und sammelte in zahlreichen Gastengagements (Theater Hagen, Dortmund, Magdeburg, Düsseldorf) Bühnenerfahrung. Sie wurde u.a. mit dem Folkwangpreis für Darstellung, dem Förderpreis des Anneliese Rothenberg Wettbewerbs und dem Preis für Neue Musik beim Bundeswettbewerb Berlin ausgezeichnet.
2016/17 war sie Mitglied des SWR-Vokalensembles und vertiefte ihr Interesse an der Neuen Musik anschließend durch ein Masterstudium bei Prof. Angelika Luz.
Überdies ist sie begeisterte Kammermusikerin und engagiert sich in der Alten Musik. Seit 2021 sang sie u.a. mit der lautten compagney BERLIN die Titelpartien DIDO, FETONTE und ARIODANTE (Händelfestspiele Halle digital), sowie RUGGIERO (Alcina).
