Esther Keil wuchs im niederbayerischen Plattling auf und absolvierte ihre Schauspielausbildung am Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Wien. Nach ihrem Erstengagement am Deutschen Theater Göttingen führte sie ihr Weg in der Spielzeit 1999/2000 an den Niederrhein, wo sie seither zum festen Ensemble gehört. In dieser Zeit war sie in den unterschiedlichsten Rollen zu sehen und zu hören, zum Beispiel als Alice in Hautnah, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Giacinta in Trilogie der Sommerfrische, Schwester Ratched in Einer flog übers Kuckucksnest, Hattie in Sweet and Lowdown, Andromache in Die Troerinnen, June Carter in Johnny Cash - The Beast in Me oder auch als Tony in Buddenbrooks. In den Spielzeiten 2002/2003, 2004/2005, 2009/2010 und 2010/11 erhielt sie den RP-Oscar als beste Schauspielerin.
