Der aus Südkorea stammende Bariton ist durch eine Reihe von internationalen Wettbewerbserfolgen bekannt geworden, darunter der Gewinn des zweiten Preises und des Publikumspreises bei Operalia 2019 und des zweiten Preises beim Internationalen Tschaikowsky-Wettbewerb 2019.
In dieser Saison wird Gihoon Kim eine Reihe von Hausdebüts geben, darunter am Royal Opera House, Covent Garden als Marcello in LA BOHÈME und an der Dallas Opera als Scarpia in TOSCA, sowie an der Bayerischen Staatsoper. Auf der Konzertbühne wird Kim sein Debüt in der Wigmore Hall geben. An der Deutschen Oper Berlin gibt er sein Hausdebüt am 21. Dezember als Giorgio Germont in LA TRAVIATA.
Zu den Höhepunkten der letzten Saison gehörte sein US-Debüt an der Washington National Opera als Marcello in LA BOHÈME, eine Rolle, mit der er auch an der Glyndebourne Festival Opera und der Korea National Opera debütierte. In den kommenden Spielzeiten wird Kim sein Debüt an der Metropolitan Opera und an der Dänischen Königlichen Oper geben.
