There is a magical quality to the story of the Israeli pianist Yaron Herman. Born in 1981, he had a brilliant career as a professional basketball player in Israel’s Junior National Team ahead. However, a serious knee injury ended his dream of life as a top athlete. He was already in his teens when he began playing the piano. Yaron Herman was so enthusiastic about his fallback option that he became THE up-and-coming jazz pianist in Europe within just a few years. After a brief intermezzo at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Yaron Herman has since lived and worked in Paris for the past 15 years. His musical focus is on the jazz piano trio, with Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau as his main stylistic influences. His highly acclaimed early work was followed in 2015 by »Everyday«, his first album for the legendary Blue Note label. For his concert at the Elbphilharmonie, Herman brings along the follow-up »Y« album. The three lines that form the letter could stand for his new trio consisting of himself, Bastien Burger, the bass player and guitarist of the Parisian Indie-Pop-Band The Dø, and Ziv Ravitz, Herman’s long-standing drummer and musical alter ego.
