Klassik Kompakt (Compact Classics) is the title – and the motto – for the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra’s series of the one-hour performances where less is more. Juraj Valčuha conducts the second concert of the series and on the programme are two great works for orchestra: Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Symphony, which he composed at the age of 19 for his final project of his degree in Saint Petersburg, and a suite from »La Strada« by Nino Rota – the same composer that wrote the famous film music for Coppola’s »The Godfather«. read less
