For Wolf Kerschek, travelling around Poland for the first time was a peculiar feeling: »My grandmother was a Polish translator, my father was born in Pomerania. I don’t speak the language myself and yet I felt a close bond with the country.« This encounter with Polish folk culture put in motion a special chain of associations: »Vladislav Sendecki is my favourite pianist and I discovered certain musical parallels. So I composed a piano concerto for him and the NDR Big Band. Together we named it ›My Polish Heart‹.« The name of Kerschek’s work is now taken as the title for a whole series of concerts beginning in November that focuses on Poland as a musical nation. read less
