At the age of twelve, Vilde Frang was engaged as a soloist to perform with maestro Mariss Jansons. Since then, the young Norwegian has become firmly established as one of the leading violinists of her generation. She now comes to the Elbphilharmonie with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Robin Ticciati to perform one of the most popular violin concertos in the repertoire: Ludwig van Beethoven’s only violin concerto, which, as the Vienna critic Möser noted after the 1806 premiere, »was greeted with unheard-of approval due to its originality and various beautiful passages«. The second piece of the evening is equally popular: Antonín Dvořák’s »New World« Symphony, in which the composer ingeniously combines American folk melodies with the great symphonic tradition. read less
