As opposed to the dominant opinion in the dance world that all movements relate to one centre in the body, the Countertechnique developed by Anouk van Dijk works with a system in which each movement is interrelated with different counter-movements: The dancers keep their alignment and balance by continually giving counter directions to each movement, thus creating a dynamic balance allowing for extreme changes of direction and spectacularly large and articulate movements.
