Dirk van den Berg graduated in 1991 as a director at the Italian National Film and Theatre Academy “Silvio D’Amico” of Rome. He had the privilege to be educated, among others, by maestro Andrea Camilleri. Since then, he worked in the international media industry for cinema, television, theatre, opera and radio.

When the golden (c)age of film school was over, he decided to hurl himself into the real world of film production. He worked as an AD, action unit director and producer, wrote and directed feature films, television and documentaries, while participating in many international productions as line- or executive producer.

Specializing in the realization of challenging projects in difficult territories - namely the Mediterranean, the Maghreb area, the Middle East and Central Asia - he often chose to live in those places for extended periods of time. From 2006 until 2009, he worked as a producer for K5 Film and Abnormal Pictures.

With 20 years of work experience for many international production companies and broadcasters, in 2009 Dirk moved back to Germany. In Berlin, he established OutreMer Film combining his international standing with the experience of his partner, producer and content-developer Herbert Gehr.
